Welcome to our 2026 Summer Interns!

We are excited to welcome Alexis Evans and Mirabel Oliver to our team for the OHSU 2026 Summer Internship Program. We’re thrilled to have these talented trainees join our group and contribute to our mission of advancing biomedical research in cancer through innovative technologies and interdisciplinary approaches.

Alexis Evans joins us from Carnegie Mellon University, where she is pursuing a dual major in Chemical and Biomedical Engineering. She is a member of our competitive B-BRITE (Biomedical & Bioinformatics Research Internship and Training Experience) Program, which provides hands-on research experience at the intersection of biology, computation, and data science. This summer, Alexis will develop and apply a class of computer vision models known as variational autoencoders to spatial proteomics data from patients with head & neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) to identify pre-treatment histological features that predict patient response to the immunotherapy drug pembrolizumab.

Mirabel Oliver joins us as a junior at Central Catholic High School in Southeast Portland and is a member of our PSI (Partnership for Scientific Inquiry) Program, which supports early research experiences for promising young scholars. She is developing a comprehensive fluorescent antibody panel for highly multiplexed tissue imaging of human glioblastoma (GBM) brain tumors to enable visualization of tumor-infiltrating immune cells within the context of defined neuroanatomical structures. Her work will help advance our understanding of how the immune system interacts GBM and how spatial organization influences disease outcomes.

Please join us in welcoming Alexis and Mirabel to the team! We’re excited for them as they embark on their research journeys, and look forward to the discoveries, creativity, and enthusiasm that they will bring to the lab this summer!
